Green Algae Masque aftercare: 48-hour do’s and don’ts

The single most important rule after our 15-minute, $39 Casmara Green Algae Masque is simple: protect the next 48 hours. In Overland Park, that means skipping heavy sweat, steam, exfoliants, and direct sun, especially when the heat and pollen are doing the most. Keep your skin calm, gently clean, and hydrated, then let that fresh, moisture-loaded finish settle in. It’s a small window, and it makes a big difference in how long your glow and comfort last.

Your first 24 to 48 hours: sweat, steam, sun, and “just one scrub” are the big no’s

Right after a hydrating algae mask, your skin usually feels refreshed and bouncy. That doesn’t mean it’s ready for everything. For the next day or two, we want to keep your barrier happy so you hold onto that moisture.

If you’re running errands along the West 79th Street corridor, try to avoid the hottest part of the day. Heat plus sun exposure can turn a nice, calm post-facial finish into redness fast. And if pollen has you sneezing and rubbing your face, be extra mindful. Hands off whenever you can.

Makeup is fine once your skin has had a few hours to breathe. We generally recommend waiting 4 to 6 hours before applying anything, then keeping it light, ideally mineral-based, so you’re not smothering freshly treated skin.

Days 3 to 7: keep the glow, don’t chase it

After the first 48 hours, most people feel totally normal. This is where we see the “I got excited and overdid it” mistakes. Your skin is hydrated, you like how it looks, and it’s tempting to throw every active back in at once.

Bring actives back slowly. If you use retinol, AHAs, or exfoliating pads, restart with a smaller amount or fewer nights, and pay attention to any stinging or tightness. If your skin tends to be sensitive or unpredictable, go even slower.
