Face Reality chemical peel aftercare guide for the first 48 hours

One of the sweetest things I hear is when someone tells me they left their first visit with a smile and a goodie bag of products, plus clear steps for exactly what to do next. That’s the energy I want for your Face Reality chemical peel too. For the first 48 hours, keep it simple: no sun, no sweating, no hot water, no makeup, and no exfoliating or active products. Gentle cleanse, hydrate, and wear SPF 30+ every morning.

Your first 24 to 48 hours: the quick rules that protect your peel

This peel is a targeted treatment for acne-prone skin, and the first two days are where you can accidentally undo your progress. I keep this aftercare tight on purpose, because busy schedules in Overland Park don’t need complicated routines.

Non-negotiables for 48 hours: avoid sun exposure and tanning beds, heavy sweating (gym, sauna, hot yoga), and hot showers or steam. These are the top triggers for extra irritation and uneven peeling.

Do this instead (morning and night)

  • Cleanse gently twice daily with a non-foaming, fragrance-light cleanser. No cleansing devices. Use your fingertips and lukewarm water.
  • Moisturize with a lightweight hydrating moisturizer. Think comfort and barrier support, not “tingly” or “active.”
  • SPF 30+ every morning, even if you’re just running errands near Oak Park Mall. Kansas sun can still be strong in September, and clouds don’t block UVA the way people think.

Skip these for now

Hold off on makeup, self-tanner, and anything that “polishes, ” “resurfaces, ” or “brightens.” And don’t pick at flakes. I know it’s tempting, but picking is how a tiny peel turns into a sore spot.

Days 3 to 7: peeling patterns, breakouts that can happen, and what I want you to ignore

Mild redness, tenderness, and light flaking are common after a face reality chemical peel. Peeling often shows up around the mouth and chin first, then the cheeks. Some acne-prone skin also “purges” a bit as congestion comes to the surface. That doesn’t mean the peel failed.

My week-one “do not” list

  • No retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, scrubs, or exfoliating pads for at least 5 to 7 days, or until your skin is fully healed.
  • No waxing, dermaplaning, or at-home peels until I tell you it’s a safe window again.
  • Keep workouts gentle until you’re past that 48-hour mark. If you do sweat after that, rinse with lukewarm water and moisturize right after.

If you’re the kind of person who usually searches “facials near me” in a rush and then tries to squeeze skincare into the cracks of your week, this is your permission to go minimal. Gentle, consistent care tends to beat a long list of products every time.

The simple product trio I want you using after your acne facial peel

Right after this treatment, your skin usually does best with three categories only. This is not the time to test a new serum you found online or borrow a friend’s “miracle” exfoliant.

  • Gentle cleanser: non-foaming, no acids, no scrubs.
  • Lightweight hydrating moisturizer: enough slip to calm tightness without feeling heavy.
  • Broad-spectrum SPF 30+: every single morning, and reapply if you’re outside for extended time.

If you’re also doing other services with me, like microneedling, I’ll map out timing so you’re not stacking intense treatments too close together. Your barrier comes first.

When I want you to reach out (and when a follow-up helps fast)

A little redness and tenderness is usually normal. Light peeling is normal. What I don’t want you to sit on is severe pain, blistering, spreading redness, pus, fever, or anything that feels like it’s getting worse instead of calmer day by day. If that happens, call me at Radiance: Beautiful Skin. If symptoms feel urgent or severe, seek immediate care.

A quick local note: I’m right off the West 79th corridor, convenient if you’re coming from Leawood, Lenexa, Shawnee, Prairie Village, Mission, or anywhere around I-435 and Metcalf. If your skin needs calming support, getting you in for a check or a soothing visit is often easier than you think.

If you want to keep building results, I also recommend reading our facials in Overland Park (West 79th) guide and our facials on the West 79th corridor. They’ll help you plan what fits your skin goals and your calendar.
